FATHOM

Find the treasure. Trust the sonar.

One treasure in every row and every column. Each number tells you how many steps — up, down, left or right — it is to the nearest treasure. Numbers never hide treasure themselves. Every puzzle has exactly one answer, and it can always be reasoned out without guessing.

How do I play?

Tap a number to ping it: the water too close to hold treasure clears. Tap a cell once to mark it empty, twice to place a treasure, and drag across cells to mark lots of them at once. The ? button in a level shows the rules again.

How many levels are there?

There is no last level. Puzzles are built as you dive, so depth 5,000 is there just like depth 5, and everyone gets the same puzzle at the same depth. Grids grow and new kinds of reasoning arrive gradually, with an easier breather every so often.

I’m stuck

The Hint button points you at the next step and names the technique it uses; you can then pay a few more coins to have it done for you. If any of your marks are wrong, the hint says so first, for free. Check tells you how many of your marks are wrong without saying which.

What are coins, stars and pearls?

You earn coins by clearing levels — the full amount when every mark you made was right first time — and spend them on hints or in the Market on new seas, gems and sonar styles. A star means a level was cleared without a wrong guess; a pearl means without hints.

There’s no sound

Check that Sound is on in Fathom’s settings (the gear on the home screen) and that your volume is up. Fathom plays even with the ring/silent switch on silent, and mixes with your own music.

I bought something and don’t see it

Open settings and tap Restore purchases. Coin packs are credited once, as soon as Apple confirms them. Refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Are there adverts?

A short advert can appear between levels after the first few depths — never in the middle of a puzzle — and you can choose to watch one for coins. Remove Ads in the shop turns off the between-level ones for good; watching for coins stays available if you want it.
